Architecture and Design

From Big Things

It all started when…

I was working in an architectural office. As architects, you need to make models to explain concepts and study a design and whenever there was a study model to be made, I was always so happy to make it.

Jump forward a few years, Aldi releases a 3d printer. Yes, Aldi! I get hooked, I start printing some small architectural elements to test it out and do small prints of floor plans for private clients. Next thing you know, I own lots of printers (and the Aldi still helps out occasionally) and I’m designing some of my favourite buildings for friends.

I visited a market in Sydney CBD that catered for tourists and was truly disappointed. There were no gifts for anyone that valued design, that had collective memories around Sydney, that valued the places and spaces that made the city, or were truly representative of Sydney or even Australia. I knew there was something missing that I could contribute.

After much experimentation, I start making moulds and casting them in a durable hard bio-resin plaster, learn to frame them, and get ready to start making them for tourists.

2020 comes, I’m ready to launch on a small scale (at markets, museums etc.) and due to the pandemic, material availability becomes very limited. So for now, I’m only producing in limited numbers, until a greater supply of materials becomes available.
The models feel solid, have a lot of detail, and I’m incredibly proud of them.

I am building the website for “From Big Things” right now, you can try your luck below, or contact me directly here.
